Every person has ever faced at least a few times in their lives with injections. Usually they do it in hospitals. But there are situations where the injection should be done at home. Injections usually divided in intramuscular and intravenous.

If you may have to do intramuscular injections, do not worry – this is no big deal. Technique of intramuscular injections is available to any adult. The only thing to be observed is hygiene – short nails (at the time of the injection wear sterile gloves) hands before the procedure should be thoroughly washed with soap and water.

Ampoule of drugs injected preferably pre-warm (you can just squeeze in your hands) as a warm substance causes less pain and is better absorbed.

A very important moment in preparation for injections – sterile needle should be as small as possible in the open state, try to keep it under a protective cap. If you accidentally dropped a needle, syringe or needle touched the hand or other objects, in any case do not do with these tools injection, immediately replace them with new, sterile. Do not worry about wasting money – they are nothing compared to infectious complications that you can bring to a person while prick him with nonsterile instruments.

Where to inject properly:

In the body, the most suitable place for intramuscular injections is considered buttocks. The muscles in these areas are well developed in almost all people, and there is the smallest chance to injure a nerve or blood vessel. But also on buttocks you should choose a place most suitable. For this purpose it is divided into four squares of one size. (If you for the first time find it difficult to navigate it by mutual agreement with the patient, these squares can be drawn on the skin with iodine). To prick the most suitable is upper external square (quadrant) or rather its center.

Intravenous injections are the most difficult in performance because their implementation is desirable to be trusted for medical professionals. All drugs that are intended for administration directly into the bloodstream, prescribed by the doctor, he determines the dosage. It is not recommended to attempt to enter drugs intravenously alone, because the wrong implementing this procedure can cause serious complications.

In life there are situations where you need to do intravenous injection to injured person. On the speed and accuracy of decision may depend the fate and life of the patient, so no harm will be to know in general how to do intravenous injection.

The most important condition in the implementation of drug administration in this way is the compliance of standard aseptic rules, which include hand washing, sterilization of instruments and others. To make an injection intravenously, usually is used cubital fossa vein. In these places the vein is not much displaced and have relatively large size, except on them a thin layer of skin enough to see very good vein. However, intravenous injection can be done in other places, as appropriate, for example, in the vein of the forearm or wrist. Basically, the drug can be administered in any of vein on the body of the patient.

The veins are divided into three types depending on their degree of palpation and ability to see under the skin.

Well contoured vein. Easily visible, protruding above the skin has a large volume and thickness. Front and side walls can be seen clearly. The entire circumference of the vein (except inner wall) is detectable by palpation well.
Weakly contoured vein. On the skin does not protruding, but can be seen well enough. Palpable and is visible only the front wall.
Not contoured. It is practically not seen, can be detected only by palpation and performed by an experienced professional.
Veins also divided into fixed and floating.

Fixed vein slightly shifted and it cannot be corrected on the width of the vessel.
Replacement vein easily shifted to a rather large distance in the subcutaneous tissue.
As is clear, in order to properly do intravenous injection, it is desirable to choose the most suitable for this vein. It will be well contoured thick vein fixed or moving well contoured thick veins. Other options are less convenient: for low contoured veins is best to use thin needles moreover sliding vein injections necessary to hold with a finger.

Procedure for intravenous injection:

A medicinal drug type in a syringe sure there are no air bubbles in the syringe, put the cap on the needle.
The patient should take a comfortable position sitting or lying down, fully straighten the elbow arm.
The shoulder (middle part) tourniquet over clothing.
In order to fill the veins of the hands with blood, the patient must repeatedly unclench a fist and squeeze.
Cotton swab soaked with an alcohol; wipe the skin at the crook of the elbow.
Take the syringe in one hand, with the other to fix the area of skin prick, pulling her near the elbow and shifting slightly to the side.
Hold the needle at an acute angle to the vein puncture skin and enter the needle on 1/3 lengths. The patient thus has to squeeze the fist.
Puncture the same vein, in order to make sure that the needle is inside the vein you can gently pull the piston on you if blood appears in the syringe and then everything is fine – needle in a vein.
With free hand untie the tourniquet; the patient should unclench the fist.
Slowly enter medication, trying not to change the position of the syringe too much.
Press the wool moistened with alcohol on that place and extracts the needle from a vein.
The patient should bend the arm at the elbow, and cotton soaked with alcohol remains at the injection place. To prevent bleeding keep a hand in this position a few minutes.
A syringe with a needle, glass vials from the drugs used cotton wool throw in the bin.
